Australia's Internet gaming ban was a cynical, unworkable piece of legislation, an industry body was quoted as saying. Under the bill recently passed in parliament, Australians will be banned from gambling on online casinos both domestically and offshore.
Communications Minister Richard Alston said the legislation took aggressive action against the tragic economic and social reprocussions of gambling in Australia by banning interactive gaming.
Internet Industry Association chief executive Peter Coroneos said the ban was a retrograde step which would not offer protection to those it purports to protect.
